How AI search decides what to recommend
How assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers pick businesses to mention, and what makes a site easier for them to cite.
A new kind of search
More people now ask an AI assistant instead of scrolling through links. Those assistants either answer from what they learned during training or look things up on the web in real time and summarise what they find. Either way, they rely on what's published about you online.
What they look for
Clear, consistent facts. If your website, reviews and listings all say the same thing about what you do and where, an assistant can describe you confidently. Contradictory or vague information makes you easy to skip.
Being mentioned elsewhere matters
Assistants tend to trust businesses that other sources talk about: review sites, directories, forums, articles. One website alone is a weak signal. Several independent mentions are a strong one.
Make your site easy to read
Plain pages that answer real questions are easier for an AI to quote than clever slogans. Short FAQs, clear service descriptions and structured data (code that labels facts like your name and services) all help machines understand you correctly.
Regular SEO still counts
Many AI tools search the web behind the scenes, so pages that rank well in normal search are more likely to be found and cited. Good SEO and AI visibility are mostly the same work.
